By living on the Missouri River, which became a huge trade route, horses were introduced to the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara early on. Today the horse remains an important way of life on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation and used for cattle, rodeo, pleasure and events such as the Indian Warrior Race.
